ROUND MIDNIGHT JAZZ BAR @ ANGEL, ISLINGTON

ROUND MIDNIGHT

Having recently moved to North London, I have been making it my personal mission to find the best venues around, be they cafés, bars or clubs. I was recently introduced by a friend to ‘Round Midnight, a fantastic Jazz and Blues bar near the Angel tube station. This bar epitomises everything I love about finding somewhere new: the venue is small and unique, only fitting in a maximum of around 100 people but packed with atmosphere.

There are live music events every night, usually of fantastic quality, ranging from lively jazz to soulful blues. As there is no cover charge and the place is usually bustling as from early on in the evening, and the bar gets packed fairly quickly; getting there early if you want a seat is definitely recommended, though many people stand and dance closer to the band.

‘Round Midnight Islington serves food for a limited time during the day and early evening, but the bar is very well stocked with drinks and service is surprisingly quick, even on busy weekend nights. Perhaps my favourite thing about this place is that it doesn’t seem to cater to any particular crowd: both times that I have been there have been people ranging from their 20s to their 60s, from students to business men and women relaxing after work. If you’re looking for somewhere lively and different to go on the upcoming long winter nights, then ‘Round Midnight is highly recommended.
